Dry Farming Research Station
Junagadh Agricultural University,
Nana Kandhasar ( Dist. : Surendranagar)
|
|
Introduction:
|
Dry Farming Research Station Nanakandhasar is working as a sub centre of main Dry Farming Research Station Targhadia. The sowing of the kharif crop during the month of June- July at sufficient rainfall.
|
Mandate :
|
-
The main objective of this station is to find out suitable varieties and Agro climatically practices of crop of this region.
-
This Research Station is working as a sub Centre of Dry Farming Research Station under the technical control of the Research Scientist (Dry Farming) ,Junagadh Agricultural University, Tardhadia.
-
The Research Station is also conduct the breeding trial of dry farming crops like sesame, pearl millet, soybean, groundnut, moth bean, green gram and cotton.
-
To carry the seed production programme suggested by Director of Research, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh.
|
Objectives :
|
-
This centre conducting trial on different dry farming aspect viz., fertilizer requirement , sowing distant , insitu moisture conservation etc. undre the guidance of Research scientist (D.F.), Targhadia. The results obtain from the experimental trial are submitted to Research Scientist (D.F.), Based on results of multi locational trials Research Scientist (D.F.) is drawing recommendation for farmers on different dry farming technology.
-
Research Scientist pearl millet, sesame and groundnut also gives trial on concerned for making recommendation of the farmers.
-
It has been observed that there are greater possibility for the introduction of new crops like soybean, sesame, green gram, moth bean and black gram.

Research Activities :
|
This centre is sub Research Station of main Dry Farming Research Station , J.A.U., Targhadia. Total 10 (ten) experiments are on going in 2005-2006, among this experiments 1 pearl millet trial from Jamnagar , 1 soybean trail & 1 sesame trail from Amreli and 2 groundnut trail from Junagadh , 5 trial from Research Scientist (D.F.), Main Dry Farming Research station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Targhadia. This Experimental data sent to concern Research scientist for further necessary process.

Future Outlook :
|
-
Cotton, sesame, groundnut and gram are the main crop of the North Saurashtra until no research has been concentrated on these crops, hence there is need to concentrate research on agronomic requirement for these crop.
-
There is a greater possibility for the introduction of new crops like sesame, soybean, gram, cotton, pigeon pea etc. hence need to concentrate research on these crops.
-
Soil moisture is a limiting factor for crop production, hence the work should be concentrated to develop suitable technologies for in-situ moisture conservation with the help of mulch and the adoption of contour cultivation practices.
-
Lime, sapota, mango, ber, custard apple, guava, date palm, anal and cashew nut are important for arid fruit crops of this dry farming region hence there is need to develop drought resistance varieties of this crops.
-
There is need to concentrate work on tillage practices.
