The 17th Meeting of Zonal Research-Extension Advisory Committee – ZREAC (Rabi-Summer), South Saurashtra Agro-climatic Zone was Organized during 12-13, October, 2012 at JAU, Junagadh.
Dr. NC Patel, Chairman and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JAU appreciated scientists for effective planning, execution and output of research activities. He advised to prioritize some areas like precision farming, protected cultivation, organic farming and screening of crop/variety/germ plasm which withstand climate change. He considered the large demand of Tricoderma bio-agent by farmers as indication of successful technology. In this meeting about 15 recommendations for farmers, 8 recommendations for scientific community and 35 new technical programme were approved for rabi-summer season of South Saurashtra region after critical and scientific discussions by the scientists.
Dr. RA Serasia, Chief Guest of function and Director, Seed Certification Agency, Gandhinagar pointed out vital issues for research like sowing date of crops in response to climate change, seed replacement rate for self and cross pollinated crops, development of sustainable variety for stable yield, production and standardization of organic seed for organic farming and need of systematic survey for adoption of developed agriculture technologies.
In this meeting, Dr. AM Parakhia, Director of Extension Education, Shri VK Dhoragia, Joint Director of Horticulture, Rajkot, Dr. PV Patel, Director of Student Welfare, the Deans of various faculties & scientists/teachers of Junagadh Agricultural University and, Officers of Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry added the flavor in the scientific discussion.
