DEPARTMENT OF FLORICULTURE & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
After establishment of college of horticulture, it was a necessary to separate the horticulture department in various division for strengthening of teaching and research activities. Hence, the Department of Floriculture & Landscaping was formed with prime objective to perform multi-functional activities like Teaching, Research and Extension. The department is working for teaching and research in floriculture & landscaping disciplines of horticulture for the students and farmers with following objectives.
Objectives
1. To provide under graduate education in floriculture & landscaping discipline.
2. To introduce post graduate programme for floriculture & landscaping in future.
3. To strengthen the research farm and nursery activity for under graduate students for practical teaching works in floriculture & landscaping.
5. To initiate the teaching-research in basic and advanced concepts of landscaping and crop improvement on various flower crops.
6. To establish the laboratory for UG students.

2.  Research activities
The research work on flower crops is basically categorized under three main groups like research in open filed conditions, research under protected structures and research in laboratory conditions.
The research work on different flower crops is mainly carried out at research and experimental farm Jambuvadi, and other different research station (farms) under the control of this department. Total farm area consists of about 02.00 ha with basic all basic facilities like office, electricity, tube well, well with drip irrigation, fencing, paths and roads, implement shed, nursery, its operational area, office, RO cool drinking water, watchman hut and other required facilities. Further the departments have different protected structures like two net house, four natural ventilated poly house and four fan-pad type structures which are being used as per need. It also consists mother plant and various genotypes of various fruit crops. The research work is going on at these places by departmental research projects as well as by PG students.
2.1 Major crops for various research areas
Major crops: Rose, Marigold, Tuberose, Gladiolus, Chrysanthemum, Gerbera, Carnation, Jasmin, Hibiscus, China aster, Heliconia, Gaillardia etc.
Research areas:
·         Introduction, selection and varietal screening of flower crops.
·         To develop and promote technology to improve production and quality of flower crops.
·         To develop and promote technology to improve efficiency of natural resources.
·         To develop and promote technology on mulching, use of bio stimulants, PGR, micronutrients and other chemicals including fertilizers.
·         Research on post-harvest technology like shelf life, vase life study and value addition of major flower crops.
